Locking Dog Door

If you have pet dogs, then you probably find yourself worrying about how they do while you are at work everyday and they are cooped up in the house.  The problem that many people have with installing traditional dog doors is that the open flap is not truly weatherproofed.  This means that if it rains or if the wind blows hard enough, it can blow open that flap and that can cause your home to be affected in a negative manner.  This is not something that most people want to worry about.  Another problem with dog doors if they do not lock is that if your animal can get in and out of the house, which means so can other animals and this can obviously be a major problem.  Add to this the fact that many people are also concerned about the possibility of burglars getting into their home through the dog doors.

One thing you can consider when looking into these options and which will help alleviate your concerns, is a locking dog door.  These devices operate through the use of an infrared sensor that can be mounted onto your dog’s collar.  This means that the dog doors are locked until a dog with the collar walks up to it and the sensor is triggered, releasing the lock and allowing them to go in and out of the dog door.  This can be a relief for people who are worried about stray dogs and cats (as well as unwelcome people) getting into their home; however, it can also be good for those who are looking to make sure that their indoor animals do not have access to the door.

The benefits of using a locking dog door are obvious and they can truly work to make sure that your dog will not be stuck in the house for hours on end waiting to go to the bathroom until you get home.  This can help reduce the risk of any unnecessary accidents on the floor because your pet is unable to get out in time.  Trusting a locking dog door will work to help reduce any concerns or anxiety you might have felt about using traditional flapping dog doors.  Plus, as the dog doors are connected to a locking mechanism, it will help keep out any of the troubling weather conditions that caused problems with the traditional style dog doors.

In short, if you have a dog that you feel you should be able to go in and out of your house at their leisure you will want to make sure that you get a locking dog door.  They can be slightly more expensive than the traditional dog doors, but the peace of mind, selective entry, and helpfulness they provide can be a tremendous relief to pet owners.  In the long run, that makes the locking dog door worth the extra investment and can help to make your home more comfortable for your pet and their needs.
